Live 8...meh
I wasn't too impressed with all this Live 8 jazz. Granted, it was pretty amazing that Bob Geldof managed to get his idea off the ground, and I'm glad that they attempted to raise awareness about African debt relief, but really, how many people do you think really walked away from those concerts thinking, "Wow, after hearing Destiny's Child sing about some random crap, I want to save Africa!"...
That's the catch; although the Live 8 concerts certainly had a noble purpose, I really don't see them affecting the G8 summit too much. I mean, now that the concerts are over, I haven't seen anything on MTV, even TV in general, regarding awareness about poverty in Africa. It seems like MTV just hosted the concerts to seem cool, but now that they're over, they've switched back to their mindless, self-indulgent everything-but-anti-poverty programming. Well, that's popular culture for you.
Speaking of MTV, they did a pretty terrible job of televising the concerts. I was enjoying myself watching Pink Floyd play together FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 24 FUCKING YEARS, only to see the their performance interrupted by advertisements. Come on! Then, after one song from Paul McCartney, they switched the coverage over to some no-name rapper...thanks, MTV. Well, to each his own, I guess; though my mind can't comprehend it, I guess some people would have been angry when the coverage switched from Toby Keith to Neil Young O_O
But, I am happy to see that some celebrities (like Bono) are trying to make a difference in the world. I signed a few of their petition-things. You should too...even though it probably won't do anything.

At least we got the thought of wanting to help Africa to improve their poverty!
Way to go...:)
